| Abstract/Contents: | Alternative grasses, from bentgrasses, were tested for germination rates and quality before being planted. Tests show good results with a 1 lb/1000 ft2 rate of Penncross on greens and tees. A 50/50 penncross, penneagle mixture was used for fairways Chewing fescue was planted as a companion to bentgrass, but was later found to be unneeded. Roughs were seeded with 70% bluegrass, 30% ryegrass and chewing fescue mix. Good results were achieved from an 80% to 20% mix of hard and chewing fescues. A higher rate of 5 lbs/1000 ft2 of a 50/50 mix of hard and sheep fescues was selected for use on out of play areas. |
