| Abstract/Contents: | Discusses the conflict between sand-based athletic fields and the safety of the athletes who require stability. Describes finding a root zone that "1)provides optimal root growth, 2)provides proper surface stability without compromising the known benefits of a sand-based athletic field, 3)provides an inexpensive alternative for native soil athletic fields at both the high school, and parks and recreation levels." Presents the schematic of root-zone blends, which range from a complete sand mixture to a complete soil mixture. |
