Abstract/Contents: | Discusses the importance of water management in maintaining a healthy and playable turf, particullarly regarding putting surfaces. Specifically emphasizes the importance of keeping the putting surface on the dry side for improving the upper root zone. Provides several reasons why golf courses and putting surfaces can become too wet, including poor irrigation, inadequate drainage, failure to hand water/syringe, poor health of the turf, and the management of isolated dry spots. Summarizes different solutions and suggests that "the superintendent must be given the needed tools and scheduling flexibility, and all parties involved must understand and support the fact that maintaining the course on the dry side is a high priority." |
