Abstract/Contents:Presents a study to "determine the lowest rates [of PRE herbicides] that can be used to control weeds over a three-year period." Results indicate that "crabgrass control was ≥70% throughout 1993 and 1994 when Barricade, Surflan, Dimension, and pendimethalin rates were reduced by 50% the first year followed by an additional 25% the second year...It was necessary to apply Ronstar at a full rate the first year, but the rate could be reduced by 50% the second year. None of the PRE herbicides controlled goosegrass effectively (≥70%) during the first year (Table 4C). However, the control was effective the second year with either Dimension or Ronstar when applied at one-half rate the first year and followed by one-fourth rate the second year; when Barricade was applied at one-half rate both years; and when pendimethalin was applied at full rate the first year and followed by one-half rate the second year. Surflan did not control goosegrass effectively either year."
