| Abstract/Contents: | "Adjuvants have long been added to pesticides to improve their activity. This paper describes the development of Frigate as an additive for use with glyphosate. Development began in 1975 in the United Kingdom with first development in Canada in 1982. Preliminary studies indicated that the cationic surfactant Frigate was more beneficial to glyphosate than the usually used surfactant. In radioactive labelled glyphosate studied on Agropyron repens (Quackgrass) increases with uptake of glyphosate over the standard formulation were noted. This improved uptake occurred under adverse conditions and also showed improved rate of uptake of glyphosate. When used at recommended low rates of glyphosate, Frigate has given more consistent control of quackgrass. These results should not be taken alternative to applying glyphosate as recommended on the label but will give the grower increased protection from changing conditions." |
