Abstract/Contents:Discusses the increased standards that players have, and the equipment needed to meet these demands. Provides a "samples equipment inventory for an 18-hole golf course, designed to provide high quality playing conditions." Details the different mowers needed for each type of turf; 6-8 walk-behind mowers for the greens, 2 walk behind mowers for the collars, and 2-3 triplex putting mowers for the tees, 3-4 fiveplex mowers for the fairways. Also presents the cultivation equipment that is needed, 2 aerators, a core harvestor, a dethatching machine, top dressing applicators, and maybe a slice seeder and a spiker. Addresses the need for a lightweight sprayer and 4 to 6 walk-behind rotary fertilizer spreaders. Describes the substantial cost of equipment and the maintenance needed to maintain your investment, such as hiring an equipment manager and tracking the machinery hours. Suggests that "deficiencies in the equipment fleet will limit the attraction of new golfers or members and compromise competitiveness in the market."
