Abstract/Contents: | Discusses application of potassium (K) fertilizers to increase drought and winter tolerance. Focuses on K application rates and its influence on turf. States that although there are positive benefits to K application, how to apply this information is critical. Addresses that high sand content in root xones favors K loss through leaching during the long growing season. States that hight K rates of applications may be necessary to keep adequate K in turfgrasses grown on sandy soils. Reports that "plant that received K rates of 1 or 2 pounds per 1000 square feet were able to recover from drought stress more quickly than plants not receiving K". Also, this research found that increased K applications resulted in decreased levels of diseases. |
