Abstract/Contents: | Discusses how to protect turfgrass from a drought. Provides nine tips for managing turf: 1. reduce nitrogen fertilizer to avoid overly promotes growth; 2. avoid weed killers prior to or during a drought; 3. reduce thatch because it absorbs water before it reaches roots; 4. sharpen the mower blade to avoid water loss in grass; 5. mow less or when it is cooler; 6. mow as high as possible to keep soil shading; 7. leave clippings to add moisture; 8. water later at night, water infrequently, and let the grass go dormant naturally; and 9. reduce traffic on the lawn. |
