Abstract/Contents:Describes how "regional municipalities are taking a leading role in banning consumer pesticides, herbicides and the general use of chemicals harmful to the environment while environmental groups and looslely-organized public groups are taking an aggressive stance on chemical use of any kind." Suggests that "pro-active turf managers must take the lead in preserving and developing natural habitats, using natural resources more efficiently and reducing chemical dependence, while at the same time maintaining areas of well-manicured turf for traditional purposes." Discusses the establishment of "native prairie, wetland, or meadow habitats on marginal lands," focusing on the benefits of reduced maintenance costs, habitat creation, and public perception. Describes selection of appropriate native plants.
