Abstract/Contents:Details the conflict developed between dog ownership and good lawn appearance. Explains the reasons why dog urine damages grasses in large amounts, while beneficial in smaller doses. Provides different solutions to combat neighboring dogs damaging lawns: fences, motion-activated sprinklers and "hot and bitter" products. Recommends training your dog to use a designated area and possible modification of your pets diet in order to increase nitrogen levels. Describes possible solutions to reparing damage caused by your dog, including increased watering of the area in order to dilute the urine or the possible use of gypsum or lime. Suggests that "while a high fence and dog-less lifestyle can ensure that 'female dog spot disease' is not a problem in your yard, homeowners and dog lovers have several practical options available to manage this problem."
