Abstract/Contents:"In most areas of Michigan, permanent snow cover came earlier than normal and before many golf course superintendents had a chance to apply their snow mold fungicide. In these cases, there is a great possibility that snow mold injury will occur. The question arises as to what should be done at this time? When the snow cover finally melts, a snow mold fungicide should be applied to the turf regardless of whether snow mold injury is evident or not. This is necessary because Fusarium patch (pink snow mold) will continue to grow in the cool wet weather of the spring in the absence of snow cover. Typhula blight (gray snow mold) does not grow in the absence of snow cover and will not be a problem in the spring. On those turfs where snow mold will not be a problem, a pound of actual nitrogen/1000 sq. ft. should be applied to speed the recovery of the disease turf. Again, a quick release form of nitrogen should be used. For spring applications where only Fusarium patch is a problem, Fore, Tersan 1991, Fungo 50, clearys 3336, Chipco 26019 or Vorlan may be used. All fungicides should be applied according to label directions."
