Abstract/Contents:Presents a chronology of key turfgrass developments from 1830 to 1952. Includes the reel mower, clay drain tile, weed-free grass seed, earthworm management, the multiple gang, side-wheel drive reel mower, slow-release, complete-analysis turf fertilizer, turfgrass fungicides, the powered rotary mower, the pop-up sprinkler head, 2,4-D selective broadleaf weed control, the powered coring machine, and the vertical cutting machine. States that "modern turfgrass science evolved gradually based on these early inventions and art-dominated trial and error developments between 1800 and 1952. These pioneering individuals and companies need our utmost respect for their very important contributions."
