| Abstract/Contents: | Discusses cytokins, which "occur as a bound form in the tRNA of most organisms, including plants." Traces the history of cytokinins "discovered in the search for factors that promoted division of plant cells in culture." Presents the biosynthesis and metabolism of the cytokinin. Outlines the basic transportation of the cytokinins which "are transported in the xylem to exert their effects on the aerial parts of plants." Explains the perception of the "cytokinin as a phytohormone [which] implies that the site of synthesis and the site of action can spatially be separated." Concludes that "the field of cytokinin research has seen dramatic advancements during the last 2 years. Several key elements of cytokinin action and metabolism have been identified, but many questions need to be addressed." |
