| Abstract/Contents: | Testing of 30 tall fescue cultivars began in 1983. Forty-seven fine-leaf fescue cultivars were entered in this national evaluation. The tall fescue cultivars were tested on 25 sites while the fine-leaf cultivars were tested on 15 sites nationally. This was the first year of a multiple-year investigation for the tall fescue cultivars, therefore, data from subsequent evaluations may modify these results. The top commercially available tall fescue varieties were: Arid, Apache, Olympic, Jaguar, Mustang, Finelawn I, and Adventure. These varieties received the top seven mean rankings for all 25 test locations in 1984. The top commercially available fine-leaf fescue varieties were: Victory, Bighorn, Reliant, Scaldis, Spartan, Aurora, Flyer, and Waldina. These varieties received the top mean rankings for all 15 test locations in 1984. Included are tables concerning the overall ranking of mean turfgrass quality ratings, and tables concerning the 1984 locations, site descriptions and management practices in the 1983 national tests. |
