| Abstract/Contents: | Presents a study "to determine the relation of water use of sod crops to depth to water table, seasonal climatic environment, and plant density." Results include that "significant differences in evapotranspiration of sod crops grown on sandy soils with 12, 24, and 36-in. water tables occurred only during periods of very low rainfall. Evapotranspiration with a 36-in. water table was about 88 percent of that from a 24-in. water table during such periods. A prediction equation showing the relation of standard pan evaporation to measured ET has a correlation coefficient of 0.882. A linear relationship was found to exist between plant density and evapotranspiration of Tifway bermudagrass grown on an Arzel fine sand with a 24-in. water table. This may be expressed by the function, Y = 0.56X + 44 where Y is percent of evapotranspiration from full sod cover, and X is percent of ground cover or plant density." |
