| Abstract/Contents: | "In order to obtain the information about the seasonal changes of cytokinin levels in the leaves of Zoysia matrella, L. cv. Koraishiba, the samples were monthly collected from the field of Kobe University during the season from July to October and the levels of cytokinin were determined with the Amaranthus betacyanim bioassay. The paper chromatography used isopropanol, ammonia, water (10:1:1v/v) mixture as solvent indicated that the fractions below Rf 0.5 were not detected the activity. The activities of the fractions above Rf 0.5 attained to the maximum on Aufust, following by September and were not detected on October. The pattern of the activity was not correlated with that of growth. The relationship between the high level of the activity in August and the conversion of growing phase which occurred in the middle of August, was considered to be noticeable. The partition chromatography on Sephadex LH 20 was applied to the samples of August and October. The results obtained indicated that the level of the activity in October was very low. The sample of August revealed that the main component of cytokinins contained in the leaves of Zoysia was zeatin-riboside and four components other than zeatin-riboside were also contained. Three out of four components were considered to be dlucoside of zeatin/zeatin-riboside, IPA and 2iP, based on Zoysia are sites of conversion of cytokinin, because IPA and 2iP are considered to be precursor of zeatin." |
