Abstract/Contents:"Field experiments were conducted to evaluate the efficacy of Xanthomonas campestris pv. poannua for annual bluegrass control on golf course greens. Five weekly application of Xanthomonas campestris pv. poannua were made in the evening and the turf was mowed immediately after application with a reel-type mower. A reduction in seed-head formation of annual bluegrass was observed a month after the first Xanthomonas campestris pv. poannua application when combined with different plant growth regulators. The effect of Xanthomonas campestris pv. poannua on annual bluegrass health and seed-head production was probably due to temporary injury by the treatment of plant growth retardants. Fall applications followed by spring application were more effective in suppressing annual bluegrass seed-heads compared to only spring applications. Paclobutrazol and the high rate of ECSS-1001X (0.063 g/100 m2) resulted in significant reduction of seed-heads, but had obvious injuries to the desired turf. An integrated program with Xanthomonas campestris pv. poannua and different plant growth retardants could be used to control annual bluegrass on golf course greens."
