| Abstract/Contents: | Discusses the development of moveable turf systems. Provides the history of moveable turf systems beginning with patents in the 1970s and 1980s and describes various types of turf systems and innovations throughout development. Provides techniques for the use and management these systems. States that "there are constraints on the use of moveable systems, particularly for existing stadia where space and / or access will limit effective use. Installing such a system in a new or existing stadium without evaluating all of the construction and management issues will undoubtedly lead to failure of the playing surface." Concludes that "there is no reason why a stadium cannot be developed incorporating moveable turf technology which will provide a multi-purpose venue catering for football, athletics and other functions...it is now a question of architects, engineers and agronomists working together to design systems which will set new standards for the future." |
