Abstract/Contents: | Discusses the future of pest and disease management. Addresses the differences in pesticide regulation between Europe and the United States. States that "pesticide laws on this side of the Atlantic appear to be stricter and less relaxed than in America where golf course management has perhaps become more reliant on the use of pesticides." Discusses the "two immediate problems" in pest management: worm control and insect larvae control. Lists predictions for the future of worm control, insect larva control and disease management. Concludes that "there is a degree of uncertainty about the future of pest and disease management. The years ahead will require greenkeepers to work with the environment rather than against it, to avoid excesses, and to place a greater emphasis on cultural management where appropriate...It's not all doom and gloom, but the industry is changing. We must all embrace these changes if our golf courses and the natural challenges they provide are to prosper in the future." |
