Abstract/Contents:"Las Vegas is one of the fastest growing cities in the United States (6,000 new residents per month). As such, greater demands are being placed on the available water resources. Irrigation of urban landscapes represents a significant portion of the total water used. Conservation efforts will be required to meet these demands now and in the future. We have been investigating the use of poor quality water for the irrigation of urban landscapes. Such a strategy has the potential to free up significant amounts of good quality water for higher priority uses. In particular, we have conducted several studies on the use of a shallow saline aquifer existing below much of the central to south eastern portions of the valley and also the use of treated sewage effluent (reuse water) on both turfgrass and mixed landscapes. We will be reporting on results of irrigating turfgrass with a peak demand cyclic irrigation strategy, reuse water transitioning on premiere golf courses and the extent of foliar damage on woody ornamentals sprinkler irrigated with reuse water."
