Abstract/Contents:Panicum mosaic virus, four isolates of SAD from Louisiana, and three isolates from Texas were tested in the Plant Virology Laboratory at Texas A&M University in order to examine the potential use of a more sensitive and possibly more selective serological technique to differentiate closely related virus strains. The data gathered suggests that PMV (Panicum mosaic virus) is the parent of SAD (St. Augustine decline). Recognition and identification of SAD strains has suggested that St. Augustinegrass cultivars known to be resistant to SAD and marketed as such, may not remain so indefinitely. A table representing linear regression comparisons of the seven SAD isolates tested and PMV is also included.
