Abstract/Contents:Discusses shade tolerance of warm-season turfgrasses. Describes the problems of too much shade on turfgrass. Compares and contrasts different turfgrasses in response to sunlight and shade. Presents an experiment to investigate the effect of shade "on 13 warm-season turfgrasses growing in trays of potting mix at Nambour on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland." Results include that "all species produced acceptable turf when grown in full sun, apart from spiny mudgrass, which was affected by cool weather in winter and appeared more sensitive to close mowing" and that "most of the grasses grew tall under heavy shade." Suggests that "some of these grasses need to be evaluated for potential use in different shaded environments."
