Abstract/Contents:Describes the positive environmental effects of turfgrasses. Details how "turfgrasses are vegetative filters that reduce storm water flow and pollutant load through the natural processes of infiltration, filtration, and biological uptake" and how they "remove sediment and attached chemicals, organic material, trace metals, and nutrients." Discusses how "a misconception exists regarding turfgrasses being significant users and polluters of water resources." Describes findings of studies that show turfgrasses are not the polluters that many think they are. Details the use of turfgrasses in reclaiming water and the use of effluent water for irrigation. Briefly discusses the use of golf courses as wildlife habitat.
