| Abstract/Contents: | Presents a response to a previous article about the city of Peoria's request for permission from the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency to put yard trimmings in a landfill. Reports that William Schubert, environmental engineering manager for Waste Management in the Midwest Region, expressed concern that the the situation in Peoria was "misrepresented." Explains that Waste Management was "approached by the city of Peoria about doing a pilot bioreactor project at the landfill, putting yard trimmings in one cell and monitoring gas production compared to a cell without yard trimmings." States that "as it turned out, the county board voted against approaching the state to repeal the ban and for now, the proposal to combine collection of trash and yard trimmings is on hold." |
