| Abstract/Contents: | "Brownpatch control studies conducted this fall in Bay City in cooperation with Milberger Turf Farms and James Engbrock, Matagorda County Extension Agent, reinforced the need for repeated applications of fungicides to control brownpatch in St. Augustinegrass. Fungicides were applied on September 18, October 15, and November 11 at rates recommended for brownpatch control. Fungicides evaluated included PCNB (Terraclor), benomyl (Tersan 1991), iprodione (Chipco 26019), Rhizolex (an experimental compound) and chlorothalonil (Daconil 2787). At the final rating date, November 25, plots treated with PCNB were completely free of brownpatch symptoms. Plots treated with Chipco 26019 were free of symptoms through November 1, but began to develop symptoms by mid-November. By November 25, St. Augustine treated with benomyl, Rhizolex and Daconil 2787 showed typical brownpatch symptoms throughout the plot. PCNB-treated plots stood out dramatically in the demonstration area. Apparently, the 30-day treatment interval was too long for the other products. It was also apparent from this demonstration that once brownpatch symptoms developed, fungicide applications did not prevent their spread." |
