Abstract/Contents: | Describes legislation in Washington and California to restrict the use of clopyralids. Discusses the issue of clopyralid contamination in compost. Explains that clopyralid-tainted compost is not useless because it can still "be incorporated in the soil, or blended with clean compost, to lower the clopyralid concentrations. Or the compost can be used strictly for applications that do not include sensitive plants." States that "regardless of surveys and conference agendas, clopyralid is a serious problem for those affected by it. The yard trimmings composting facility in Spokane has not been able to market its clopyralid-laden compost...Because of this situation, the Spokane facility is not currently accepting yard trimmings. Instead this material is going to a landfill." |
