| Abstract/Contents: | 1987 report of three on-going studies of named and experimental tall fescue varieties in Kentucky. Test 1, (fifth year) replicates 46 varieties three times at 1.5 inch and 3 inch mowing heights. Test 2 (fourth year of National Tall Fescue Variety Test) replicates 54 varieties at 1.5 inch mowing height. Test 3 (first year of National Tall Fescue Variety Test) includes 65 varieties but is not rated due to severe winterkill. Quality evaluations were taken in April, May, and Augusst for Test 1, and monthly, (March - September) for Test 2 and rated on 1-9 visual scale. Density and texture, using botanical counts, were evaluated from one 4-inch plug per plot taken in the winter and percent Kentucky bluegrass contamination was estimated on June 15 for both tests. Tables include ratings for every year of test and total averages. The variety 'Apache' is rated number 1 or 2 in both tests. |
