Abstract/Contents:Responds to the claims of Beard and Green that turfgrasses benefit the environment and subsequently humans due to the buildup of soil organic matter due to annual root system turnover. The authors conclude that turfgrasses are able to sequester carbon dioxide, but because of the high turnover rate, very little ends up in the recalcitrant soil carbon pool.
