| Abstract/Contents: | "In a turf management-cultivar evaluation study established during 1982, Johnstone, Kenhy and a synthetic of polycross progenies (pcp) of 7 ryegrass X tall fescue hybrid derivative plus 2 of the lines that helped form the synthetics had significantly superior color on 23 February 1984 than 23 other cultivars and experimental strains of commercial companies. All entries were scored for turf quality during July, August, September and October 1984 and for color again during October 1984. Generally, entries that scored well for color during February 1984 also scored as superior for quality during summer and fall and for color during October. Significant correlation coefficients were obtained for association of February color with quality scores during July and August but not for September and October. In a second turf performance study established during 1983 that includes 19 ryegrass X tall fescue turf-type selections and their synthetic of pcp plus 34 commercial cultivars and experimental strains of commercial companies, 5 hybrid derivative selections were scored as superior for color and quality during the year. The new Johnstone cultivar exhibited outstanding turf performance in both tests." |
