Abstract/Contents:Two tests to evaluate long term quality of improved Lolium perenne cultivars, and evaluate their competitiveness with Poa pratensis in a Kentucky location. Test 1 evalutes three replications of 13 varieties seeded at 4 lbs/ft2, with a 1" cutting height between 1977 and 1983. A table provides both plot purity and visual quality rating results with Derby, Yorktown II, and Diplomat rating the highest quality over a 7 year average. A second table provides plot purity and visual quality rating results of certain Lolium perenne/Poa pratensis mixtures and Lolium seeding rates. Test 2 evaluates 3 replications of 48 selections, with a seeding rate of 5.5 lb/1000 ft2, and a 1.5" cutting height. A table provides a two year average (with Gator, BT-I, and SWRC-1 rates highest), 7 monthly visual quality rating results (March-October 1984), and red thread, measured 13 July 1984. In each test, 3 lbs nitrogen/1000 ft2 were applied in fall and early winter.
