Abstract/Contents:Studies were begun in fall 1983 to investigate the possibility of selective control of Festuca arundinacea with 2 herbicides, Diclofop-methyl (Hoelen), primarily used for annual grass control in cereal grains, and Chlorsulfuron (Telar or Glean), used for broadleaf control in cereal grains. Sulfometuron methyl (Oust) was added to the study in fall 1984 and is labeled for non-cropland use. The treatments were made to plots containing a Poa pratensis/Festuca arundinacea mixture. Plots were evaluted on % reduction in F. arundinacea and injury to both P. pratensis and F. arundinacea. It was desirable for the F. arundinacea to be removed with as little overall turf injury as possible. November 1983 to March 1985 % plot F. arundinacea reductions and color evaluations appear in tables. Results show chlorsulfuron to be a promising material for selective removal of F. arundinacea.
