| Abstract/Contents: | "CUTLESS 50W at 1 lb/a a.i. and RUBIGAN 50W at 0.5 lb/a a.i. were foliar applied to a Kentucky bluegrass turf on May 11, 1984. On May 13, the entire area was treated with Roundup to kill the turf. Four weekly seedings of Penncross bentgrass at 1.5 lb/1000 ft2 were started on May 18, after vertical mower renovation of the experimental site. Dates of overseeding were May 18, May 25, June 1 and June 8. Rate of bentgrass establishment and crabgrass infestation were evaluated. Smooth crabgrass was a serious problem in this study with heavy populations occurring in most control plots and the late seeded treatments. The results of this test, presented in a table, indicated CUTLESS initially delayed the percent ground cover for the first and second weekly overseeding. Only the first weekly bentgrass seeding, however, continued to demonstrate regulator activity throughout the evaluation period. CUTLESS demonstrated good growth inhibition of crabgrass on all weekly seeding periods. RUBIGAN provided slight growth regulator activity early only on the first weekly bentgrass overseeding. This effect appeared as temporary growth delay and diminished with time. RUBIGAN also demonstrated growth regulator activity of lesser magnitude than CUTLESS on crabgrass." |
