Abstract/Contents: | Advises readers on choosing a ground cover that is a low-maintenance alternative to Kentucky bluegrass and "will grow to a height of a foot or so" and will "not be attractive to wildlife, especially geese." Recommends a fine-leaf fescue. Suggests a maintenance regimen that includes occasional mowing, a starter fertilizer if the area is extremely infertile, and application of one-quarter inch of water every three weeks to hydrate the crowns in extended droughts. States that the height of the grass provides cover for predators and discourages geese from foraging. Explains that of the fine-leaf fescues, hard fescue and creeping red fescue have performed the best. |
