| Abstract/Contents: | "Field studies were conducted to determine the effect of flurprimidol (EL-500), a growth regulator, on turfgrass clipping volumes, percent change in the composition of a mixed turf composed of creeping bentgrass (Agrostis palustris) and annual bluegrass (Poa annua), and overall turfgrass quality. Flurprimidol was applied in the spring to actively growing turf at rates of 0.56, 0.84, and 1.12 kg/ha and watered within 24 hours. Turfgrass clipping volumes were measured using Toro Pro 84 mowers with attached baskets. Biweekly visual observations were made to determine change in percent composition and quality of turf fairways. Flurprimidol treatments resulted in reduced turfgrass clipping volumes up to 11 weeks after application. The conversion of annual bluegrass to creeping bentgrass in the turf mixture was evident at 0.84 and 1.12 kg/ha rates. Overall turf quality was reduced initially because of the discoloration of the annual bluegrass. This temporary discoloration was observed 7 to 10 days after application and was directly related to the rate of flurprimidol applied. Turf quality was not effected 21 days after treatment." |
