Abstract/Contents:States that "two experiments were initiated on centipedegrass to determine a) the influence of fertilizer and cultivation and b) effects of rates and frequency of fertilizer treatments on quality, stand, thatch, and centipede decline." Shows the seven cultivation techniques and 5 fertilization rates used in the first experiment and the 6 fertilization rates and 3 frequencies used in the second experiment. Results include "Nitrogen did not injure centipedegrass during the first two years (1982 and 1983) of the study" and "the injury to centipede from fertilizer gradually increased to a severe level in 1985 and 1986." Results also include "topdressing centipedegrass with soil significantly reduced turf injury from fertilizer treatments," "vertical mowing did not improve quality of centipedegrass during 1982 through 1985, but improved the turf in 1986," "thatch sample collected August 1985 indicated that N significantly increased thatch, but there was generally no difference between the 2 or 4 lb rates," "topdressing controlled the thatch more than did other cultivation treatments," and "vertical mowing in March and July controlled more thatch than when vertical mowed in March."
