Abstract/Contents:Discusses twelve developments that "highlighted theses in turfgrass discovery and invention era," including the reel mower, the clay drain tile, weed-free grass seed, earthworm management control, the side-wheel drive, multiple gang mower, the slow-release turf fertilizer, two fungicides for the control of a number of turfgrass diseases, the first powered rotary mower, the first underground pop-up sprinkler head, the "first truly effective herbicide for the selective removal of broad-leaved weeds from perennial grasses", the first powered coring machine, and the first powered vertical cutting machine. States that "the first powered rotary mower was developed by Power Specialities Ltd. [Limited] of Slough, England, [United Kingdom]" and the "first underground pop-up sprinkler head...[was] developed by the Thompson Company in California." Concludes that "at the time [these contributions] were developed or invented [they] were very major advances in improving the quality and lowering the cost of turfgrass maintenance."
