Abstract/Contents:Discusses the reasons for blending different varieties of turfgrasses and lists which grasses are and are not commonly blended. Explains the differences between blends, brands, and varieties in a sidebar. Describes the benefits of blends over monostands, such as greater overall resistance to more diseases and greater uniformity. Notes that in cost-saving blends of superior and inferior grasses, traits of the inferior varieties tend to linger for years. Shows the differences between "preform" and "custom mix" blends. States that "blending turfgrass varieties is a good agronomic strategy. However, as with any single turfgrass variety, it pays to get quality components."
