Abstract/Contents: | Describes research being done on hydraulic systems that use water instead of petroleum-based fluid in turf equipment. Explains that the availability of specialized parts, technology, and high costs currently keeps water hydraulics out of the turf industry, but this is expected to change in the future. States that according to Professor Gary Kurtz, "by using water instead of more viscous petroleum fluid... the efficiency could be boosted at least 10 percent," which would "mean a savings of 500 million gallons of gasoline in the United States each year." |
