| Abstract/Contents: | 1985 study to evaluate fungicides for control of Helminthorporium leaf spot (Drechslera poae) in a mature 'Kenblue' Kentucky bluegrass located near Lexington, Ky. The turf received minimal care and was maintained at a 2.5 in. mowing height. Fungicide treatments were applied to 6 ft X 10 ft plots in a randomized complete block design with 4 replications. A hand-pumped Solo back pack sprayer with a 6 ft boom having four nozzles delivering 2 gal/1000 ft2 at 25 psi was used to apply the treatments. Single application treatments were applied on 17 Apr only. All other treatments were applied on 17 Apr, 1 May, 15 May, and 29 May except FMC 4921 50W which was applied only on 1 May and 15 May. The plots were rated on 31 May by estimating the percentage of turfgrass foliage showing symptoms of leaf spot. Very little leaf spot was present at the time of the first application but disease pressure became moderate by 31 May. Several treatments gave excellent control of leaf spot including CGA 449,Dyrene, Chipco 26019, and Daconil 2787. A table provides fungicides, application rates, and results. |
