| Abstract/Contents: | A mature stand of 'Derby' perennial ryegrass located in Lexington was used to evaluate eighteen fungicide treatments for rust control. Treatments were replicated four times in a randomized complete block design with 6 ft X 10 ft plots. The plots were maintained at a 1.5 in. mowing height and otherwise given conventional care. A hand-pumped solo backpack sprayer with a four-nozzle boom delivering 2 gal/1000 ft2 at 25 psi was used to apply the treatments. Application dates were 20 Jun, 5 Jul, 19 Jul, 5 Aug, 20 Aug, and 7 Sep 1985. Wet weather in late summer and again in mid-fall were conducive to rust infection. Plots were rated for rust control by estimating the percent of infected turfgrass foliage. One evaluation was made 11 Sep and the second was done 1 Nov, almost 2 months after the last fungicide application. Rust disease pressure was moderate on 11 Sep and very high by 1 Nov. On 11 Sep, plots treated with Banner, Bayleton, Daconil 2787, and both rates of SN 84634 plus X-77 had significantly lower rust infections than untreated plots. By 1 Nov, only Bayleton, showed a pronounced residual effect resulting in reduction of leaf rust disease. A table provides fungicides, application rates, and results. |
