Abstract/Contents:Discusses the role of a baseball groundskeeper. States that "a baseball groundskeeper should have certain qualities, as well as experience, before taking the reins of field management. An ideal groundskeeper for a new facility would have earned a college degree in turf management, and worked with a Major League Baseball groundskeeper for a few years, but that combination of education and experience is rare." Mentions that "the Sports Turf Managers Association [STMA] is developing a certification process for the sports turf manager that will be a great tool in providing sports turf managers/groundskeepers with the necessary information for maintaining a baseball field. The program also will make it easier for those who hire sports turf managers." Concludes that "the groundskeeper/sports turf manager becomes a part of the team, an integral factor in winning games and maybe even championships. The right head groundskeeper will not require motivation to keep them at their work, but instead will need to be persuaded to leave the field at the end of the day."
