Abstract/Contents:Profiles the irrigation and drainage system of Knox Grammar School's athletic fields. Points out that the Santa Ana couchgrass used with this sand-based field results in "vigorous winter growth." Details the normal process of dethatching, cutting, slicing, and fertilizing the turf. Addresses the problem with grass seed blowing onto the schools turf from a golf course across the street and how the turf managers deal with this. States that Garry Hoy, manager of the athletic fields, is slowly converting all fields to a sand base by using a slicing process. Gives Hoy's opinion that annual ryegrasses "are not strong enough to last through the football season."
