| Abstract/Contents: | "Chlorsulfuron and metsulfuron methyl, formerly known as DPX-T6376, are two broad spectrum postemergence materials for selective weeding along roadsides. After several years of testing throughout the North Central states, chlorsulfuron and metsulfuron methyl have demonstrated: Effective control of a broad spectrum of annual and perennial broadleaf weeds with low use rates of 7-et g/Ha. The addition of a surfactant enhances activity. Rapid absorption by both foliage and roots. The materials are readily translocated basipetally and acropetally. Improved Canada thistle control at lower rates with the addition of other herbicides. Suppression of growth and seedhead inhibition of tall fescue. Mefluidide improves the performance of chlorsulfuron but increases the injury to fescue with metsulfuron methyl. Excellent safety on bluegrass, fescue and smooth brome. Low mammalian toxicity. Chlorsulfuron is labeled for use of roadsides. Metsulfuron methyl was tested under an Experimental Use Permit in the North Central states for 1985. |
