Abstract/Contents:Discusses the difficulty of maintaining sea-washed turf on bowling greens. Compares the general type of construction: "a foundation of hard-core, clinker and sand, or, alternatively, clinker and sand alone" to the use of soil. Describes the advantages of using soil instead of the general type of construction. Discusses the advantages and disadvantages of using sea-washed turf on soil. Describes the use of seeded greens or ordinary meadow turf grasses instead of sea-washed turf. Suggests that "those with greens to lay, should consider the use of high marsh turf as against that of low marsh turf." Discusses the problem of the eradication of the worm. States that "it is far better to get rid of these pests with liquid worm killer, assuming that the green has been laid properly and that the invaders are working inwards from the ditches." Suggests that "the leather jacket evil is, apparently, on the increase, and fortunetly they can be exterminated quickly by the use of Ortho-dichloro-benzene." Describes techniques for ascerning if leather jacket insects are present. Discusses the problem of aeration and possible solutions to the problem. States that "the ideal surface, lasting indefinitely, has yet to be reached."
