| Abstract/Contents: | "Emphasis was placed on the differential response of goosegrass and bermudagrass to metribuzin as used for selective control in a golf course fairway. Metribuzin was applied at 0.07, 0.14, 0.28, 0.56, 1.12, 2.24 and 4.48 kg/ha on well developed vegetative goosegrass and established 'Vamont' bermudagrass. Net photosynthesis was measured with an infrared gas analyzer just prior to, hourly after for 4 hours, and three times within during the next 9 days after metribuzin treatment. All treatments immediately reduced net photosynthesis of both species. A higher threshold dosage was required for photosynthesis inhibition of bermudagrass than in goosegrass and the degree of inhibition was directly proportional to the metribuzin rate. Some recovery of photosynthesis was observed 1 day after application; however, none of the plants resumed normal photosynthetic rates during 9 days. The differential inhibition of photosynthesis and recovery in goosegrass and bermudagrass appeared a major factor in selective control of this weed." |
