Abstract/Contents:Take-all patch is an extremely destructive disease of bentgrass turf and is caused by the fungus Gaeumannomyces graminis var. avenae. Symptoms of the disease normally develop in April, May, or June, but may develop in the fall. The most successful approach in reducing the severity of Take-all patch has been through acidification of soil with ammonium sulfate or mono ammonium sulfate. The fungicides Bayleton (4 oz/1000 sq.ft.), Chipco 26019 (4 oz/1000 sq. ft), Banner (3 oz/1000 sq. ft.), Daconil 2787 (8 oz/1000 sq. ft.), and PMAS (1 oz/1000 sq. ft.) were evaluated for control. All fungicides except Daconil 2787 reduced disease intensity. PMAS provided excellent suppression. Repeated application of PMAS discolored turf. The high rates of Bayleton and Bannor elicited an infavorable Blue-purple color in the turf.
