Abstract/Contents:An interest to the Turf Manager is the effect of annual grass herbicides on the development of immature turf and on the rooting of newly laid sod. In Dr. Jagschitz's most recent study, he applied the herbicides benefin, bensulide, DCPA, fenoxaprop-ethyl, MSMA, oxadiazon, pendimethalin and prodiamine to immature sod that was 7.5 months old (55-65% coverage) and to mature sod stands that were at least 12 months old and ready for harvest. Grass delayed by bensulide and sod strength of the immature sod was not affected by DCPA or the 1.5 lb. rate of pendimethalin. The rooting of mature sod was not affected by many herbicides. Includes a table on the effect of herbicides on grass stand development and sod strength when applied to immature Kentucky bluegrass and on rooting strength when applied to mature Kentucky bluegrass.
