Abstract/Contents: | "Synthetic turf is an alternative to natural turf for sports grounds, especially in closed halls and and under adverse conditions. The development has progressed considerably in the last 30 years. The synthetic turf systems of the first generation without a filling have been replaced by systems of the second generation which have been filled with sand. Newly developed fibres resulted in improved conditions. Synthetic turf systems with long naps of the third generation, filled with granulate have been uppermost since the end of the nineties. The World Football Association (FIFA) as well as the European Football Association (UEFA) have welcomed this development. The FIFA has already permitted the introduction of the first synthetic turf of sports grounds. The UEFA will follow soon. This article deals moreover with the present state of development of the larger national football associations." |
