Abstract/Contents:"The paper shows the advantages of installing a synthetic surface at a Centre such as Lilleshall. The advantages outweigh the few not-so-good features. Various aspects of maintenance are described, including cleaning and line marking. There is considerable use by resident courses, involving coaching courses and team training, but use is not restricted to resident groups. The facility is also available for non-resident users who travel as much as 40 miles to use it. There has been a gradual increase in non-resident use since completion of the installation in August 1978. The surface is a versatile one, and has been used for lacrosse, cricket and athletics in addition to soccer and hockey. The comments of some national coaches are given."
