Abstract/Contents: | "The functions of the carpet surface are: - a) to form a wearing surface for the pitch, b) to give an accpetable cosmetic finish, c) to protect the base and sometimes to provide load distribution, d) to provide acceptable playing characteristics and, e) to require an acceptable degree of maintenance. The paper considers the properties desirable to fulfill these requirements, looks briefly at the materials amd techniques which are used to obtain these characteristics, and concludes with some observations on the systems already in use." |
